High-Performance Iron Sulfide Dissolver for Sour Oilfield Systems
GOOSE is a high-performance iron sulfide dissolver designed to safely remove FeS deposits from sour oilfield systems, including tanks, vessels, piping, and production equipment. Engineered for controlled chemical dissolution, it reacts with iron sulfide scale to convert it into stable, water-soluble complexes that can be flushed from the system without releasing hydrogen sulfide gas when used as directed. GOOSE does not release the iron sulfide back into the solution and will prevent water injection issues.
Unlike traditional acid-based treatments, GOOSE provides a safer, more controlled approach to iron sulfide removal while maintaining system integrity and reducing operational risk. Its water-soluble formulation allows for effective application in circulation cleaning, batch treatments, and ongoing system maintenance programs.
GOOSE is ideally suited for tank cleaning, system flushing, and turn-around chemistry programs where iron sulfide deposits restrict flow, reduce efficiency, and create hazardous conditions.
Built for Sour Systems & Turn-Around Cleaning
GOOSE is engineered for real-world oilfield conditions where hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) and iron interact to form hazardous deposits such as:
- iron sulfide (FeS) scale
- pyrite and related sulfur compounds
- corrosion byproduct buildup
GOOSE is designed to safely eliminate these risks through controlled dissolution and iron sulfide scale removal.
A Safer Alternative to Acid-Based Iron Sulfide Removal
Traditional methods for removing iron sulfide often involve:
- strong acids
- heavy mechanical cleaning
- high-risk intervention during shutdowns
These approaches can:
- release hydrogen sulfide gas
- create unsafe working conditions
- damage equipment
- require extensive downtime
GOOSE solves these challenges by:
- chemically dissolving iron sulfide deposits
- binding iron into stable, water-soluble complexes
- preventing re-precipitation and downstream fouling
- enabling controlled cleaning without uncontrolled H₂S release
This allows faster vessel turnaround, safer entry conditions, and reduced mechanical cleaning requirements.
How Goose Operates
GOOSE removes iron sulfide deposits through a controlled chemical reaction that converts FeS into stable, soluble complexes within the aqueous phase. This process:
- dissolves tightly adhered iron sulfide scale
- keeps iron fully complexed in solution
- prevents re-deposition during flushing
- eliminates the need for aggressive acid treatments
Because the reaction is controlled, GOOSE does not liberate hydrogen sulfide gas when used as directed, making it ideal for enclosed systems and turn-around cleaning environments.
This allows operators to safely clean tanks, vessels, and piping without introducing additional safety hazards.
Product Features

- Non-Acidic System Cleaning – Reduces corrosion risk compared to acids, does not contain oxidizers
- No H₂S Release (When Used as Directed) – Safer for enclosed systems
- Water-Soluble Formula – Ideal for circulation and flushing applications
- Prevents Re-Deposition – Keeps iron in stable solution
- Turn-Around Ready – Designed for shutdown cleaning programs
- Compatible with Circulation Cleaning – Cleans internal surfaces without disassembly
- Low Freeze-Point – Designed for year-round use
Applications
GOOSE is ideal for:
- tank cleaning and vessel clean-outs
- sour oilfield system cleaning
- production equipment and separator cleaning
- piping and flowline flushing
- turn-around cleaning programs
- Downhole circulation cleaning of production tubing
Sour systems contain significant levels of hydrogen sulfide which, when coupled with corrosion byproducts, can generate iron bearing scale deposits (combination of pyrite, porrhotite, marcasite, mackinawite, etc).
How to Use
Note that GOOSE must be applied through an aqueous phase – It is not oil-miscible and should not be injected directly into hydrocarbon only systems.
Batch / Clean-Out Applications
- Apply GOOSE in an aqueous solution at 1–3% concentration based on system volume and deposit severity
- Higher concentrations may be used for heavily scaled systems
- Ensure full contact between solution and iron sulfide deposits
- Allow 2–10 hours of shut-in if applicable for complete dissolution
Oil-Wet Systems
Iron sulfide deposits are often coated with hydrocarbons such as paraffin, asphaltenes, or bitumen, preventing proper contact with water-based dissolvers.
In these cases: Pre-treat or co-apply with MAVERICK to remove hydrocarbon barriers and expose iron sulfide deposits.
This allows GOOSE to:
- fully contact FeS scale
- improve dissolution efficiency
- accelerate cleaning performance
Continuous Treatment (Preventative)
- Apply continuously at 50–200 ppm
- Helps prevent re-formation of iron sulfide deposits
- Maintains clean flow paths in sour systems
Important Notes
- Must be applied in water (not oil-miscible)
- Do not inject into hydrocarbon-only systems
- Proper contact is critical for performance
- Pre-clean hydrocarbons with MAVERICK if deposits are oil-coated

FAQ
What causes iron sulfide buildup in oilfield systems?
Iron sulfide forms when hydrogen sulfide reacts with iron from corrosion or metallurgy, creating scale that restricts flow and creates safety risks.
What is an iron sulfide dissolver?
An iron sulfide dissolver is a chemical treatment designed to remove FeS scale from oilfield systems by converting it into a soluble form that can be flushed from the system.
Where is Goose used?
GOOSE is used in tanks, vessels, pipelines, separators, and production equipment where iron sulfide deposits restrict flow and create operational or safety issues.
Can Goose be used in tank cleaning?
Yes — GOOSE is highly effective for tank cleaning and is commonly used in turn-around cleaning programs to remove iron sulfide deposits safely.
What if iron sulfide is coated with hydrocarbons?
If deposits are oil-wet (paraffin, asphaltenes, bitumen), use GOOSE in combination with MAVERICK to remove the hydrocarbon layer and improve cleaning performance.
Can Goose be used continuously?
Yes — it can be applied at low concentrations to help prevent iron sulfide formation and maintain system cleanliness.
